Picture what belongs on the art table

BRUSH, PAINT, PENCIL, CRAYON, PAPER, CLAY, INK, PALETTE, CHALK, SCISSORS, GLUE, and EASEL offer a varied set of labels. Begin by matching a few words with drawings or suitable photographs. Some participants may know an item by what it does before they recognize its written English name. Ask them to describe the use in their own words. A picture of an easel or palette can be enough to introduce it without needing every listed material in the room.

Notice the words that need an extra look

PALETTE and SCISSORS have repeated letters worth checking before searching the grid. CLAY and CHALK start similarly but describe different materials. Invite partners to choose one short and one long answer, read both spellings aloud, and explain which letter group helped them find each. They can add a small sketch beside a word on scrap paper. This gives an easy puzzle a second reading task while keeping the focus on a concrete set of objects someone can picture.

Design a picture with a limited toolkit

After solving, choose three supplies from the list and describe a picture you would make with them. The plan can stay as a written description or a pencil sketch, so the activity works even without a full cupboard of materials. At a shared table, participants can exchange plans and ask why a particular supply was chosen. A teacher can use the ideas to introduce a separate art session. Let each person decide what to draw and whether to share it with the group.
