Weather Word Search

Free printable puzzle with a matching answer key. Play below or download a US Letter or A4 PDF.

Look out of a window, then bring the vocabulary to this printable weather word search. Twelve entries cover conditions people may notice, from a BREEZE to a RAINBOW, along with the word FORECAST. The medium grid uses forwards and diagonals. It can support a short weather conversation, a drawing task, or a classroom observation routine without asking a learner to predict what the weather will do next.

Choose words that describe what you notice

CLOUD, RAIN, SNOW, WIND, SUNSHINE, and FOG offer different starting points for a weather picture. Ask solvers to choose the entries that fit a remembered day or a scene in a book. HAIL, THUNDER, and STORM may lead to questions that need a suitable reference or teacher explanation. No one needs to have experienced every condition to solve the grid. Reading the supplied bank and matching the complete spellings is enough to take part in the puzzle itself.

Keep observations separate from a forecast

FORECAST is a useful word to compare with something you can describe from a window right now. Invite pairs to write one observation and one question about later conditions. The worksheet does not supply current weather information, and a picture of a cloud is not a reliable prediction. For a real outing, use the appropriate current forecast and the organizer’s instructions. In a language lesson, the contrast gives learners a reason to practice time words such as now, later, and tomorrow.

Create a small weather-word display

After solving, draw three panels showing different conditions and label them with words from the list. A group can place the panels beside one another and compare which colors, shapes, or details communicate each scene. Older learners might add a short caption, while a beginning reader can match a printed label to a drawing. Keep the activity on paper when conditions outside are unsuitable. A classroom can return to the same bank later and discuss which words are relevant to a different day or season.
