Book Lovers Word Search

Free printable puzzle with a matching answer key. Play below or download a US Letter or A4 PDF.

Bring a different kind of reading page to your next book-club meeting with this printable book lovers word search. Twelve entries cover books, readers, and library vocabulary rather than the titles of famous novels. The harder grid allows backwards and diagonal answers, giving experienced solvers a reason to look carefully at each letter sequence. You can join in without having read a particular author or finished the same book as everyone else.

Look at the parts and the people

PAGE, COVER, CHAPTER, and PLOT give you several ways to discuss a book, while AUTHOR and READER name people involved in its creation or use. LIBRARY and BOOKSHELF suggest where it might be kept. Ask a group to sort the words and notice that a physical part, such as a cover, is different from a story element. Solvers can use any familiar book as an example; no specialist literary terminology is needed to take part.

Use a distinctive cluster in the longer entries

BOOKSHELF contains a recognizable BOOK sequence, which can help you confirm the rest of a possible answer. LIBRARY and CHAPTER offer different clusters to watch for. Because words may run backwards, finding the final letter first is just as useful as spotting the beginning. Trace the complete straight line before marking it. At a shared table, ask someone to give a location hint instead of circling the answer on another person’s sheet without being invited.

Start a book discussion without a book quiz

Once the grid is complete, choose three entries and use them to introduce a book you enjoyed, abandoned, borrowed, or would like to read. Someone might describe an interesting COVER, a memorable PLOT, and the place they found it in a LIBRARY. A library group can turn the word bank into a short shelf tour. For language learners, keep a sample book nearby so that abstract words are supported by something they can hold and point to.
