Connect a job name with a place or task
TEACHER, LIBRARIAN, FARMER, BUILDER, DRIVER, BAKER, PLUMBER, and MAIL CARRIER can be linked with many everyday settings. NURSE, DOCTOR, DENTIST, and FIREFIGHTER add other roles. Ask learners to choose a word and draw a place or an object they associate with that work. A person may work in more than one setting, so invite explanations instead of requiring a single picture. The bank is a small sample of community roles, with room for the group to suggest others afterwards.
Read the longer job titles in full
FIREFIGHTER and LIBRARIAN ask for more careful tracking than a short entry such as BAKER. MAIL CARRIER appears as a phrase in the editorial list, with its letters joined as MAILCARRIER inside the grid. Read the words before searching and notice a familiar part of a longer title. Once an answer is found, trace all the way to its final letter. Partners can compare a written job label with a picture and practice saying a simple sentence about the person’s work.
Create a small town on paper
Give a group a large sheet for an imaginary neighborhood. Add a school, a library, a bakery, and any other places participants choose, then write suitable job labels beside them. The finished word search supplies some spellings, and the group can look up additional names as the drawing grows. Keep the roles open to any character someone wants to draw, without using appearance or gender as a clue. Older learners can add interview questions they would like to ask someone about a working day.
