Science Lab Word Search

Free printable puzzle with a matching answer key. Play below or download a US Letter or A4 PDF.

Introduce the language around an investigation with this printable science lab word search. Twelve entries include familiar equipment, something worn for protection, and words describing observation and recording. The medium grid offers forward and diagonal matches. It works as a paper-based warm-up for a science lesson or a vocabulary station, giving learners time to recognize the terms before discussing how they appear in their own teaching materials.

Look for equipment names in the word bank

BEAKER, FLASK, LENS, SCALE, MAGNET, and TUBE offer concrete objects that can be matched to pictures. GOGGLES provides another recognizable label. Before searching, ask learners which items they have seen in a book, demonstration, or classroom. Use clear images rather than asking people to identify unfamiliar equipment by handling it. The list is a selection of useful words, so a real lesson may involve other items or use more specific names for the equipment actually being shown.

Follow the language of an investigation

OBSERVE, RECORD, TEST, SAMPLE, and RESULT give you words for describing part of an investigation. Try placing a few into a short account of a simple observation, such as comparing drawings or noting what can be seen in a photograph. Ask which words describe an action and which name something being discussed. There can be more than one useful answer depending on the sentence. The aim is to practice language in context while leaving the scientific method and lesson content to the teacher’s materials.

Make a paper equipment gallery

Give each pair a blank page for three small drawings with labels taken from the bank. Under each picture, add a question they would like to ask about that item. Share the pages after the word search and look for questions the class can explore next. This worksheet does not authorize an experiment, replace laboratory instructions, or explain equipment safety. Keep practical activities separate and follow the supervision and procedures for the actual setting. The gallery can be completed entirely with paper and pencils.

Questions about this puzzle

Does this science lab worksheet include an experiment?

No. It is a vocabulary puzzle and optional drawing activity. Any practical investigation needs its own instructions, appropriate materials, and the supervision required for that setting.

How do I print the puzzle and its answers?

Choose US Letter or A4, then select Download PDF above. The student puzzle comes first and its matching answer key is on the second page. For browser printing, choose the same paper size and disable browser headers and footers.

Can I change the words or make a gentler version?
